Daisy Rock Girl Guitars Welcomes Susan SurfTone to its Artist Roster

LOS ANGELES, CA – March 9, 2012
Daisy Rock Girl Guitars, the original girl guitar company, welcomes Susan Surftone, the latest guitar instrumentalist to hit Daisy Rock Artist Roster, who brands the unique sound styling of garage, surf, blues and beyond.

Raised in upstate New York during the 60s, Susan SurfTone learned a lot of things by listening to The Beatles, The Ventures, and Dick Dale, to name a few of her favorites. She also learned a lot from one thing she never gave ear to: Girls can’t do that. Susan SurfTone gravitated to guitar playing at the age of nine. She was encouraged to practice by playing actual instrumental rock songs, such as the widely known surf rock anthem, “Walk Don’t Run,” by The Ventures. From that point on, she knew that she wanted to be in a band—not to be a girl singer, but to be a guitarist.

After mastering the six string as a pre-teen, hitting the Big Apple to make her mark on the seminal CBGB/Bowery circuit soon thereafter, and—interestingly enough—working her way up professionally through the ranks of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, she found herself as the leader of Susan and the SurfTones. She enjoyed a successful run on the surf circuit, touring as far as Germany in the wake of such albums as Without A Word and Thunderbeach.

Currently a solo artist, Susan SurfTone has carved out a niche in the world of surf music. Guitar Player magazine has affectionately described her lead playing as "period perfect surf primitivism [that] conjures a San Diego senior prom circa 1962." Her latest album, Shore—the first release under her own name—takes the music into bold new directions, heading to a realm she refers to as "retro-yet-modern." The album spotlights Susan's swooping, slicing guitar lines as well as her ear for classic pop in all its forms, from the finger-popping "Chance" (which Susan describes as inspired by the early '60s chestnut "No Matter What Shape Your Stomach's In") to the down and dirty "HuDu," on which she slips into semi-slide mode.

“Susan is the only girl surfer music guitar player that fronts an instrumental surf band and having her hang out and find the cool blue Daisy Rock guitar that made her waves splash even higher, was totally awesome – but having an ex-FBI agent on our roster?  BONUS!”

Susan SurfTone shares: "With over 40 years of playing experience, I've owned a lot of guitars. My Daisy Rock is the one I reach for now. It's a great guitar with the most comfortable neck I've ever played."
