Daisy Rock Artists to Play at SXSW 2011

Daisy Rock Girl Guitars announces several of its endorsed artists will perform at the South by Southwest Music Festival (SXSW) in Austin, Texas this year. Featured in this lineup are The Bangles—whom rock historians view as one of the greatest all-female bands ever—performing at Maurices and the Girls Rock Austin Showcase on March 17th. Also performing are Daisy Rock endorsed artists Elyse Haren (Elyse and the Aftermath), Nicole Atkins, Kelly and Kamille (Karmina), Sick of Sarah, The Dollyrots, Sing the Body Electric, and “Queen of Rockabilly” Wanda Jackson.

Elyse Haren of Elyse and the Aftermath describes her music as being intense pop rock with the intimacy of a singer/songwriter. She has been compared to rocker girls of the 80s and more modernly to Florence and the Machine. Elyse and the Aftermath will be playing several shows from March 15-19 at SXSW, including the Sweet Relief Showcase, the Bemused Showcase, the Red Gorilla Showcase, and the Blue n’ Green Showcase.

Nicole Atkins will be playing several shows at SXSW from March 16-19 in different venues, including Antone’s, The Stage on Sixth, La Zona Rosa, Clive Bar, and Cedar Street Courtyard. With her throaty vibrato and nostalgic, orchestrated pop songs, Atkins brings to mind a blend of Roy Orbison, Loretta Lynn, and Jenny Lewis. Daisy Rock teamed up with Atkins through an introduction at the SXSW festival, and jumped at the opportunity to work with such a talented artist.

Sisters Kelly and Kamille are the band Karmina (means “song” in Latin), and the essence of their art can best be described as “sparkle rock”. They write, sing, produce and perform their own original music, which can be heard on their sophomore album Rewriting Chapter 2. Karmina’s music has appeared on numerous major TV shows, including CSI: NY, 90210, The Hills, and The Cleaner. Karmina will be playing on March 18 at the Lucky Lounge for the Blue n’ Green Showcase.

Sick of Sarah will be playing at the Speakeasy and the Girls Rock Austin Showcase on March 17. Sick of Sarah is an American power pop band based in Minneapolis. Their "strong-voiced punky girl-rock" has drawn comparisons to bands such as Dollyrots and Tegan and Sara.

The Dollyrots will be playing at Black & Tan on March 18. The Dollyrots are a pop punk band composed of Kelly Ogden, Luis Cabezas, and Chris Black. They have released three studio albums and are currently signed to the Blackheart Records label.

Sing the Body Electric will be playing at Beso Cantina and the Red Fez on March 18, and at the All Together Now Showcase at Bayou Lounge on March 19. Sing the Body Electric is an indie-rock band that Kevin Bronson of Buzz Bands LA says “makes you think of Bright Eyes as stalked by a one-man marching band that latter being trumpeter Luis Lopez, whose horn blares triumphantly and tastefully through the arrangements fashioned by singer-guitarist Colin Dieden, guitarist Isiah Powell, bassist M.J. Medina, and drummer Nathan Pirtz.”

Last but not least, Daisy Rock’s very first endorsed artist, the “Queen of Rockabilly” Wanda Jackson, will be on the panel monitored by the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum called A Woman's Work: Changing the Music Industryon March 18. She will also be performing at Rachael Ray's Feedback Party at Stubb's BBQ in Austin, Texas on March 19. Jackson will be headlining on the Stubb's stage, which will also see performances from The Bravery, Tapes 'n' Tapes, Eli "Paperboy" Reed, and others. The festivities begin at 10:30 AM and continue until 4 PM.
