Bigger, Badder and Better than ever!
The Real Girls of Rock Kick Off Summer with Preview Shows in Connecticut,
New Jersey and Long Island!!

Revved up and chock full of amplified energy, the 2008 Girls Rock & Girls Rule tour (GRGR) is pumped and ready to roll! GRGR, the premiere NYC organization dedicated to showcasing the best and hardest rockin’ independent femmes, kicks things off this summer with three stellar live preview events – featuring some of your favorites from the past plus a bunch of great new gal-infused bands.

GRGR will kick off the season July 31st at Café Nine in New Haven, CT followed by two more smokin’ events on August 1st at Tierney’s Tavern in Montclair, NJ, and September 6th at Munchaba Lounge in Levittown, NY – bringing to the stage your GRGR favorite NYC core bands G-spot, Loki the Grump, RewBee and Marisa Mini & The Underage Hotties back to the stage. Even more exciting in ‘08 is the debut of new core band America’s Sweetheart, a garage-indie powerhouse that packs a mean punch with luscious, layered guitars and sweet vocal harmonies (think Sonic Youth meets The Breeders).

>Following GRGR tradition these shows will also feature some fired-up, local favorites that give new meaning to the term “chick rock.” Preview-show performers bringing down the house include GRGR alumni favorites and some hot new additions: Jan Loe, New Day Dawn and Infernophonic ( New Jersey), Joanie Loves Tchotchkes (Connecticut) and The Rosies, Dormitory Effect and All Out Riot (Long Island).

Each night will offer audiences an entire evening of awesome music for just $8, the admission is a tax-deductible donation and includes raffle tickets for cool prizes and giveaways. There will also be drink specials from our sponsor Fuze, plus audience members can even sign up to win their very own Rock Candy guitar from Daisy Rock! Girls Rock & Girls Rule will continue its mission of giving back and supporting the next generation of girls who rock through its ongoing partnership with Willie Mae Rock Camp for Girls. The Brooklyn, NY-based camp receives a portion of the proceeds from each event.

And this is only the beginning! This summer’s shows are just a sneak peak of the GRGR’s second, ragin’ multi-city East Coast Tour, which kicks off Oct. 3 with back-to-back shows in Washington, DC; Norfolk, VA, Raleigh, NC, Spartanburg, SC, Tucker, GA; Nashville, TN; Cincinatti, OH; Pittsburgh, PA, and Baltimore, MD.

About Girls Rock & Girls Rule:

The time has come for a platform that will bring attention to all the fantastic women who are making the kind of music people want to hear. These are not re-touched pop princesses or radio clones. They are unique, original and ready to show the world just how hard they can rock! For the past seven years Girls Rock & Girls Rule has established itself as the premium organization dedicated to promoting and showcasing the hottest, upcoming and established female rockers on the music scene. As GRGR continues to grow, its mission is the same as it’s always been: to create awareness and exposure for independent female rock artists while helping women and girls in the community. This year’s tour will feature more than 25 bands -- groovin´ on everything from pop-rock, to punk, to metal to hardcore.

GRGR would not be possible without the help of sponsors and contributors, including Rolling Rock, Fuze, Airplay Direct, Daisy Rock, D’Addario, Jakprints, Noisy Planet, Sam Ash, Shure, and Sonicbids as well as our local media partners; WBAB 102.7, WRAT 95.9, Steppin’ Out and the New Haven Advocate.

About Willie Mae Rock Camp for Girls:

Willie Mae Rock Camp for Girls was founded in 2004 and is a New York City-based non-profit summer day camp serving girls ages 8-18. The program offers girls the chance to learn how to play musical instruments, write songs, perform and generally "rock out" in a supportive environment that fosters self-confidence, self-esteem, creativity, tolerance and collaboration. The camp is named after Willie Mae "Big Mama" Thornton, a blues and rock performer/songwriter who was one of the first women to play the music that came to be known as "rock n´ roll." The camp grew out of the Portland, Oregon-based program Rock n´ Roll Camp for Girls, which was founded in 2000. (www.williemaerockcamp.org)
